Davine Sutherland
I grew up on the fishing coast of the east Highlands, hearing Gaelic from my grandparents’ generation and using the Gaelic-influenced English of the area. Gaelic became a passion, and I later achieved my Diploma in Gaelic Language and Culture with Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic college of the University of the Highlands & Islands. I also hold an MA from Aberdeen University (English) and teaching qualifications. My career has mainly been in adult education, teaching both English as a Second Language in Germany and Gaelic there and in Scotland, and Gaelic via online courses to students worldwide. I also worked for the University of Cambridge English Examinations, so all in all I have a strong background in the practice and theory of language teaching and learning, and love my work. One of my main interests is Celtic music – I sing in the Inverness Gaelic Choir and am currently learning the clarsach.
