|We are delighted to present the details of the alternative festival we have put together for you this year. |
ONLINE EVENTS We want to encourage and entertain you, and to remind you of all we accomplish when we are together: exploring, playing and listening to gorgeous Gaelic music. So we will keep the flavour of each festival day with daily videos from past Scoileanna, when we were interacting together, in an authentic way, in real time.
We will be unveiling a talk, a workshop and concert footage each day. You will be able to see them on our YOUTUBE channel or navigate there from this WEB PAGE at the following times [Irish Summer Time = GMT +1]:
2.00 p.m. SCOIL TALK
3.30 p.m. SCOIL WORKSHOP
5.00 p.m. SCOIL CONCERT FOOTAGE
ONE-TO-ONE VIRTUAL COACHING We are also maintaining the coaching sessions that have become a much loved festival feature over the last number of years. For this special year, we reached out to everyone who has tutored at Scoil na gCláirseach in the past; the result is our amazing 2020 line-up:
Siobhán Armstrong (IRL), Simon Chadwick (N IRL), Sylvia Crawford (N IRL), Ann Heymann (USA), Andrew Lawrence Kin (GUERNSEY), Eibhlís Ní Ríordáin (IRL), James Ruff (USA) and Bill Taylor (SCOT).
Click HERE to find out more about our virtual tutors. Click HERE to view or download a PDF of each tutor’s areas of interest and contact details. Please contact individual tutors any time from now for more details and to book sessions 13–17 August. Please feel free to CONTACT US if you have any questions.
AGM Our 2020 AGM will take place virtually this year, on Zoom, scheduled for Thurs. 13 August, 18:30 IST (GMT +1). A DropBox link with joining instructions, agenda, and 2019 minutes, will be sent to Society members the day before.
SUPPORT US We are missing out on our Scoil membership fees this year, which are normally paid along with Scoil participation fees. If you were planning to join us, and have not donated your Scoil 2020 deposit (many, many thanks to those who were in a position to do that), would you consider becoming an HHSI member? Or perhaps make a one-off donation to support our work? You can do so HERE. No problem, of course, if you are not in a position to do that; there may also be other ways in which you can support us. See our call for Society members with relevant skills underneath.
MEMBERSHIP BONUS For our current members, and for anyone who joins before 12 August, we will be offering access to a very special Members-Only lecture given recently by the HHSI’s Dr. Karen Loomis: ’The Hollybrook Story’ on the results of our recent scientific survey of an eighteenth-century Irish harp at The National Museum of Ireland. Many thanks to Somerset Harp Festival, USA, for enabling us to make this offer.
We hope that you and your loved ones stay safe until we all meet up in person, and meanwhile, we can’t wait to say hello virtually in August!
