Lá na Cruite / Harp Day 2020

Uncategorised · 13th October 2020

Lá na Cruite / Harp Day 2020 will take place on Saturday 17th October. It is an all-Ireland event to promote Ireland’s national instrument through concerts, lectures, pop-up events, and harp makers’ workshops. This year Harp Day is going world-wide virtually on Harp Ireland’s Facebook page and on their YouTube channel.

The HHSI will be celebrating by releasing a 30-min. concert on our YouTube channel, recorded on 3rd October 2020 at Comhaltas’s Féile Patrick Byrne in co. Monaghan: ‘Songs of the Irish Harpers’ featuring Eibhlís Ní Ríórdáin and Siobhán Armstrong in music of the 17th- and 18th-centuries, performed on copies of old Irish harps.

Also due to be disseminated as part of Harp Ireland’s events will be a lecture: ‘Rediscovering Old Irish Harp Music and Traditions’ given by Simon Chadwick. This was recorded at an HHSI Early Irish Harp Discovery Day at Comhaltas’s Remembering Bunting Festival in Belfast on 22 February 2020.

Bígí linn! Enjoy the day!
