We are delighted to announce that Dr. Lynnsey Weissenberger arrived in Kilkenny today, to begin her work to catalogue our library of books, CDs and ephemera with a view to having an online catalogue for the collection.
Lynnsey holds a PhD in Library and Information Studies and has just completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Irish Traditional Music Archive in Dublin, working on their newly launched, ground-breaking LITMUS project. We feel very fortunate to have attracted someone of her expertise to lead this HHSI project to catalogue the first ever library of books, sound recordings and ephemera specific to early Irish harp and related subjects.
Our goal is to have a searchable online catalogue for our members, who can borrow from our Lending Collection. This will replace our current library page.
We have been collecting material for the seventeen years of our existence and we think we may have more than 600 items including some 18th-century first editions of seminal texts; now these will be much more visible and accessible. This project is only possible because of funding given to us for the purpose by An Chomhairle Ealaíon (The Arts Council) for which we sincerely thank them.
