Our online festival alternative finished on 17 August. Many thanks to everyone who participated. We gathered to watch youtube premieres of fifteen workshops, talks and concerts from previous Scoileanna. Premieres allow viewers to type-chat in real time and this was a great success: we had a participant at 6.00 a.m. in the morning in California (hi Beth!) discussing with others for whom it was late at night in Japan (hi Hitomi!). And everywhere in between. : – )
So despite COVID, we had connection, which felt wonderful for all of us here in Ireland and for our community around the world. We enjoyed having a big ‘reach’ and made new friends. You can still see all fifteen FREE presentations (and the chats) HERE.
Our one-to-one virtual coaching sessions were also very successful with good take-up; my thanks to our 2020 virtual tutors. All eight of them teach virtually year-round if you would like to carry on learning online this autumn. You can check them out HERE.
TWO FAVOURS TO ASK
1. If you participated, would you be so kind as to give us some feedback? We would be enormously grateful. There’s a short questionnaire HERE.
2. If you have been enjoying our FREE Scoil 2020 alternative, would you consider supporting our work? You can donate any amount HERE and see your name up in lights HERE. No problem of course if that is not possible for whatever reason. If you have time that you can offer us we would also love to hear from you. We are particularly looking for expertise in fundraising, PR, book-keeping, finance, administration, web design, social media and video-editing. For as many or few hours as you can manage, on a flexible basis to suit you. Many thanks to those who have already supported us in any way this year.
THANKS, FAREWELL and WELCOME
Many thanks to the hard-working HHSI team that put our Scoil 2020 alternative together: Simon Chadwick, Sylvia Crawford, Barbara Karlik, Karen Loomis, Ashling Slater, Maura Walsh and Alessia Yuskovets. We are also most grateful to The Arts Council’s Festival Investment Scheme for making our festival possible, and to Cruit Éireann / Harp Ireland for sponsoring our concert presentations.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing Chair of our Governing Body: Prof. Dáibhi Ó Cróinín, and the outgoing Secretary, Dr. Karen Loomis. I am so grateful to them for all their work on our behalf over the last number of years. Míle buíochas ar fad. I am delighted to present the new Chair, Seán Donnelly, and our new Governing Body Secretary, Ashling Slater. I look forward to working with them over the coming months.
In the meantime, I wish you a healthy and melodious autumn –
Siobhán Armstrong, Founder-Director, HHSI
